In Victorian times, it was very uncommon for a women to speak at her wedding.  The men were the sole entertainers at these events, but as life as changed and the world has become more liberated, women now have the opportunity to have their say, thank their friends and family and entertain their guests.

Because there is no real tradition to making a brides speech, there is no formal structure, but it has become common practise to include the following.

- Thank all your guests  for coming
- Remember to also thank those who were invited and wished to come, but were unable to due to health or other issues.
- Include an antidote about how you met the groom, some funny story that involves not humiliating either yourselves or anyone else, perhaps replacing a personal story with a tasteful joke.
- Add some poignant heartfelt words for your groom
